The BMW M235 2 Series Gran Coupe has never been a car that’s going to be to everyone’s liking, and that’s perfectly alright. If it’s rear-wheel-drive, two-door fun you’re after, BMW actually has an actual coupe for just that niche. However, if you feel like wetting one foot in the Bimmer life with something more practical than an impractical conservative compact that is still fun to drive, for it does the job more than adequately. It’s finally getting a replacement after four years, and now we have our first glimpse of the second iteration.
2025 BMW M235 Gran Coupe: Production, Its Pricing and Launch in the US
The 2025 2 Gran Coupe will come off the production line in BMW’s Leipzig plant before the year is out and sales is expected to start in the US market come March. It will go on sale in the 228 xDrive Gran Coupe and M235 xDrive Gran Coupe at a base price of $42,775 and $50,675 respectively including the destination charge. A front-wheel-drive 2025 BMW 2 Series Gran Coupe will follow this year at $40,775. The switch also means the entire range of the sedan is $2,015 more costly on average than the present model year, following an increase in standard features of about $1,870.
New exterior is not a significant evolution of the previous — although here I’d like to say, it’s a shift for the better. Some BMW supporters haven’t adjusted to the fresh, rounder and friendlier designs of today’s entry level BMWs but to me the new 2 looks good, it even shares some resemblance with the contemporary Ford Focus. Kidneys are pronounced but not as preemptive as the front, the teardrop shaped headlights are classy, and after the odd shaped existing sedan the tails have made a much more traditional look. I would still take a hatch, as the Europeans get; however, this is not bad for a three-box design.
BMW M235 Gran Coupe LWB: Longer, More Powerful, and Faster
LWB version of the Gran Coupe is 70mm longer and 10 mm taller than before while maintaining the same wheelbase and width as before. The sedan has only packed on some weight in this new generation—117 pounds to be exact—bringing the total curb weight of the all-wheel-drive model to 3,578 pounds. Standard trims also use this solitary TwinPower turbo four-cylinder engine, but in base form, it boosts horsepower to 241 (from 13 more hp), as well as the torque to 295lb-ft (from 37 more) from the optional spec. Move up to the BMW M235 model and you get now 312 hp (+11 hp) whereas Nm stays the same. That’s good for 0-60 mph in just 4.7 seconds—not bad for a little Bimmer. Both are only available with the brand new generation of the seven-speed Steptronic efficient dual clutch transmission.
The BMW M235 also gets M Adaptive Suspension and it makes for a soft mode or a set for when you feel like going full throttle. Indeed, BMW M235 is having a field day about improvements to the modulus of the 2 Gran Coupe’s structure – specifically new shock absorbent technology that indulges the rolling motion during zesty driving, preloaded anti-roll bar mounts, and very stiff rear axle, among others. Hinchee, customers can opt for the M Compound brakes, four-piston, fixed calipers with 15.2-inch drilled rotors up front and single-piston, floating calipers with 13-inch discs out back.
BMW M235 Gran Coupe: Ultra-Modern Look, Top-notch Functions, and Emerging Technologies
On the inside, the new 2 Gran Coupe might seem a little naked as many interiors of today’s cars do but it also has distinct characteristics. The stitched BMW M235 themed longitudinal stripes across the dash are better than I expected and the HVAC vents may have the best application of Kidney acreage I’ve seen in a BMW M235. (And of course, BMW has a lot to work with those shapes over the years.) There are two slightly-under-10-inch displays for the instrument cluster and the infotainment and they’re integrated into a curved panel; BMW notes that every 2 Gran Coupe now comes with a 12-speaker Harmon/Kardon premium sound system as standard. Other features are wireless device charging and auto-dimming mirrors both internally and externally within the cabin.
For a smooth or sporty ride, the M235 also gets M Adaptive Suspension, which provides the system desired. In fact, BMW has focused on optimizations to the chassis of the 2 Gran Coupe, new shock absorber tech that cut roll when the car was being driven hard, preloaded anti-roll bar mounts and very rigid rear axle to improve dynamics, among other things. Customers is able to option M Compound brakes; the four-piston, fixed calipers with 15.2-inch drilled rotors in front and single-piston, floating calipers with 13-inch discs in rear.
Austere Yet Distinctive: Innovative interior of BMW M235 Gran Coupe
Inside, however, it appears that BMW M235 has made the new 2 Gran Coupe look relatively austere, as many new cars do, but also distinctive. Depending on the type of seats the N12 gets, the tri-color M-themed stitched stripes across the dash work rather well than what I expected ad the HVAC vent is one of the best and most innovative uses of the BMW kidney bean I have come across. (And BMW has done much with those shapesNote the seats, which are not only leather but also vegan veganza.” I for the longest time thought Veganza was a Psoriasis drug, but guess what? It’s furniture. However, whatever it is, it looks good. As we’ve seen up until now, BMW has released only renders of the M235’s interior; and as everyone knows, the best proof of a well-designed interior is the base model that doesn’t have many gizmos. As to that we will just have to wait and watch.
While the M235 may be down by 13 ponies to the Audi S3, it’s equals in torque stakes, and both use front-biased all-wheel-drive system. I’d love to know how they compare, and we’ll hopefully get our chance in the coming months.
